Color put simply is the way our brain processes the various wavelengths of light. These wavelengths are accurately specified into the colors we know today through the methods of colorimetry.
A color is described in three ways: by its name, its pureness and saturation and lastly by its value or lightness.
Here are some color terms:

  • Hue - pure color, these are the colors within the color wheel
  •  Chroma - this is the property of color that tells us how pure the hue is, which means there’s no mixtured of white, black or gray in it
  •  Saturation - tells us how a color looks under certain lighting conditions, think how pale, how weak or how strong
  •  Value - the lightness and darkness of a color, this property is based on how close it is to whiteTint - white is added to a color
  • Tone - if the color is made darker by black
  • Shade - gray is added to a color
